Dating study: First comes love … then comes sexting

Going steady once meant getting pinned or wearing your significant other’s class ring. But now there’s a new normal in the ritualized world of dating: sexting.

A new study by the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health has concluded that sending sexually explicit photos or messages through phones “may be just another normal, healthy component of modern dating.”

Researchers tracked the dating behavior of 3,447 men and women ages 18 to 24 and found that sexting is very common — and not associated with higher rates of having unprotected sex or suffering from depression.
